Our story

Drop by drop we became a project with the goal of making clean water a reality in more and more places.

I. Volunteering in Ecuador
August 2018

The story behind The Social Water is tied to the story of Javi, a traveler who was committed to social issues and is the founder of The Social Water. The more he traveled, the more he became conscious of the hydrological inequalities and the lack of access to clean drinking water, and so he volunteered on-site. It consisted in the distribution of 175 water purifying filters in the region of Pucará in Ecuador, financed through a crowdfunding campaign. The initiative, coordinated by Ayuda en Acción, was completed in August 2018.

This first approach was filled with very emotional moments. During the first delivery, Javi remembers a woman who hugged him and said “you have no idea what these filters mean to me.” And now he admits that he would like to return and meet her again to tell her “you have no idea what your words meant to me.”

Without a doubt, it was a transformational experience, and the pillar upon which all that came later would be based.

II. Add your Drop
September 2018 – June 2019

When the volunteer work ended, he decided to stay a few more days in the area and that was when he saw the reality of the families that lived without access to water since the funds for the volunteer project only covered the costs to benefit a part of the community that was affected.

He couldn’t leave like that, so he presented a proposal to raise more funds and help the reso of the families. And that is how the #AportatugotaEC initiative was born, organized, and coordinated entirely by Viaja, Disfruta y Ayda.

It was a complicated process full of valuable learning experiences. Thanks to this initiative 222 more filters were supplied, which added to the 175 of the first delivery, are supplying clean drinking water to more than 2,500 people.

III. The Social Water
October 2019 – Present

All the knowledge and experience gained up to that moment served to answer the question from which our project is born:

What can you do when the solution fits in the palm of your hand?

The answer was simple:

Make sure it is within reach of the hands of those who need it most.

To finance more filters and projects that grant access to people without clean drinking water The Social Water was founded. The only distributor of filters that allocates 100% of its profits to impactful projects. The sale of filters through our online store was launched to the public on March 22, 2021, coinciding with World Water Day.
